Following a steady decline in registered positive corona virus cases, severe illnesses and deaths, Malawi has moved to level 1 of the Coronavirus pandemic as classified Public Health (Corona Virus COVID-19) (Prevention, Containment and Management) (Amendment ) (No 3) Rules 2021.
Minister of Health, who is also Chair of the Presidential taskforce on Covid-19 Khumbize Kandodo made the announcement in Lilongwe today where she attributed the positive development to collaborative efforts by all Malawians in adhering to reinforced prescribed Covid-19 preventive measures, including subscription to the Covid-19 vaccine.
She went on to emphasize that the vaccine is by far the best tool in reducing risk of severe disease and consequent hospitalization, while continued adherence to the prescribed measures is critical in reducing further spread.
Following the development, Kandodo has since announced that:
1. There are no more travel restrictions into Malawi though inbound travelers shall be required to produce a negative PCR Covid based certificate obtained no older than 72 hours as of arrival date.
2. Limitations of workplaces have been lifted to normal
3. Limitations on public transport carriage have been lifted to normal
4. Limitations on public gatherings have been relaxed, with proviso to STRONGLY recomend demand of vaccination certificates and to offer Covid-19 vaccinations at the venue, 50% of indoor events for a venue of 500 persons capacity, and 2,000 persons for outdoor events.
Meanwhile, Kandodo has encouraged those not yet vaccinated to do the needful and urged the everyone to continue adhering to the prescribed preventive measures.
