Osun State First Lady and chairperson Southern Governor’s wives Forum, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola has urged stakeholders to invest in activities that would engage the girl child and shield them from any form of violence and indecent practice in the society.
Speaking at the grand finale of the maiden edition of the Besty Obaseki 2021 women football tournament held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin city, Edo State.
Mrs Oyetola in her remarks, referred to the theme of the tournament “Promoting the Girl Child,” aimed at harnessing sporting talents and tackling the scourge of human trafficking and exploitation of teenage girls.
Mrs Oyetola further stressed that girls when engaged with activities, end up being more productive and useful to their states and nation at large.
In her remarks, the Edo State First lady Mrs Betsy Obaseki stated that the tournament is living up to its aim of exposing both professionals and those in the lower league to the same platform for the development of women’s football.
The Highlights of the programme was the presentation of trophies and cheques to the winners of the tournament where Bayelsa Queens defeated Rivers Angels at a penalty shoot out to win the grand prize of Five Million naira.
Dignitaries at the Grand Finale include Hon Sunday Dare Minister for youths and sports,First Lady Bayelsa State Dr Mrs Gloria Diri ,Edo State Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu and his wife, Mrs. Maryann, other state functionaries as well as officials of the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
