Leader of a pro-youth organization, Comrade Adekunle Akinde has described as heart-warming, the special consideration accorded the youth in the recently concluded Ehingbeti Economic Summit in Laagos, commending Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for carrying the youth along in all the state’s functions.

Adekunle Akinde, who is the Convener of the Youth Advocacy Initiative, in a chat with our correspondent Badagry Tuesday, expressed the delight that, Sanwo-Olu has not forgotten his promise in his Budget 2021 speech where he assured the youth of their due in governance, saying, the promise still keeps on being reinstated at any available forum by the governor.

Sanwo-Olu, in his opening address at the 8th edition of Lagos Economic Summit (Ehingbeti), which focus, according to him is “Setting the tone for the next decade – for a greater Lagos,” did not hide his love for the youth, enthusing that, the governor has made it abundantly clear that the youth would be incorporated to contribute their quota to achieve a greater Lagos.

Akinde buttressed his point about Sanwo-Olu’s special interest when he quoted the governor as saying that: “It is noteworthy that the Summit previously planned for November 2020, was rescheduled to this period as we wanted to have conversations and constructive engagement with stakeholders in the Lagos project, including our youth whose voices must be heard.

We wanted to take lessons from the unfortunate incident of 20 October 2020 – #ENDSARS – and together build back better. As a government, we are taking great care to address the concerns of all our citizens. The Lagos we are building today, and for the next decade, is for the youths of today, who are the leaders of tomorrow.”

The youthful activist also saluted the governor for being an agent of continuous development because of his playing out the objective of the Summit that is said to be an avenue for executing developmental projects and initiatives, in furtherance of Lagos State as a megacity.

Establishment of the Lagos agricultural youth empowerment scheme, Akinde pointed out is part of Sanwo-Olu’s solid love for youth development, adding that, his “leveraging on the large young and skilled population,” to set the tone for the prosperous future of Lagos state,” is another testimony that the governor is youth friendly.

Akinde recalled the governor’s budget speech in which he showed special interest in the aspect of youth mentoring when he said that, “there would be increment in its financial commitment to youth mentoring, mental health support, and substance abuse rehabilitation,” with heavy investment in the development of human capital, with special focus on youth employment and provision of social safety for young people.

Against this backdrop, the elated activist therefore enjoined the teeming youth of the state as well as other people of goodwill to double their support for the governor to reciprocate his good gestures to the youth and other segment of the society, assuring that, “this governor is a good man, he has not disappointed us and he will not disappoint us.”
