Lagos State First Lady, Dr. (Mrs.) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday launched Environmental Bees Club and Training Manual for use in all public and private Secondary schools in the State.

The initiative, which is being spearheaded by Ministry of The Environment and Water Resources, is designed to resuscitate the Climate Change Club and Harmonize all Environmental-Based Clubs in Lagos State Schools, with focus on educating students on climate change, how to address it and most importantly ensure a healthy, safe and sustainable environment.

Speaking at the event held at Adeyemi Bero Auditorium in Alausa, Ikeja, the First Lady said it was particularly instructive that the Environmental Bees Club was the collaborative effort of various Ministries, Departments, Agencies and interest groups in ensuring the state set the pace in harmonizing all environmental based clubs and introduction of non-examinable training manual which extensively addresses how the people should explore environmental issues, engage in problem solving and take action to improve the environment.

According to her, “The reality of Covid-19 and other factors such as climate change, global warming, among others have reinforced the need for all and sundry to take personal responsibility for the care of the environment.

“Together, we can work to achieve a sustainable environment by refraining from indiscriminate waste disposal and respecting the planet through our actions.”
