...Describes it as callous, insensitive

A pro-democracy activist, Comrade Adebayo Oyenekan, has condemned in stronger terms, the call from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Lagos State Chapter, asking for Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s resignation from office.

Oyenekan, the Leader of the Congress of Progressive Youth (CPY), in a media chat in Lagos, described the call as callous, insensitive and unacceptable to the well-meaning residents of the state, adding that, the party was misguided and ill-advised.

According to him, the call was ill-timed and ill-advised because the situation on ground in the country aftermath of the #EndSARS turmoil called for sober reflection and unity of purpose on how to rebuild the nation and bring it back to its normal footing, stating that, “anything contrary would amount to detraction, divisiveness and un-patriotism.”

The youthful activist however declared that, the PDP’s call was never a surprise to people following the antics of the party, reminding that, there were instances in the country when chieftains of the party, its top government functionaries along with their supporters organised rallies to sing and dance while the country was in distresses.

Oyenekan expressed displeasure that, the party has not learnt any lesson and heal thyself of all the petty antics that led to its rejection in 2015, wondering how the party should be thinking of resignation of a performing governor when the expected pre-occupation of any patriotic citizen of Nigeria should be about rebuilding the damaged nation!

While sympathising with the party over its misadventure on Sanwo-Olu, the youth leader sounded philosophical, warning a rejected member of the community not to initiate music because nobody would dance to it, likening the PDP to a rejected party that is trying to seek relevance through the back door.

According to him, the PDP should have saved itself of the embarrassment its call would cause because the authorities have put in place a required panel to look into the matter and act accordingly, stating that, any attempt to usurp the power of the panel would amount to jumping the gun and act of insubordination.

The youth leader therefore urged members of the opposition party, the good people of the state, religious and ethnic leaders and corporate bodies to support Governor Sanwo-Olu in his quest to move the state forward, admonishing that, this is the time for nation building and not time for playing petty politics.
