A schoolgirl in Russia froze her newborn baby to death as she was ‘too scared’ of telling her parents of the birth, according to police.
The teenager, 14, allegedly put her baby boy in a plastic bag and left him to die in a freezer as she felt she couldn’t share the news with her mum and dad.
She is in hospital in a ‘serious condition’ after giving birth by herself in the family home, officials say.
No one from the girl’s family or her teachers at school knew she was pregnant, according to local reports.
She began bleeding heavily after she went into labour one evening but did not call for help.
She then allegedly put the newborn in the freezer as her father worked in the garden.
Official Nadezhda Boltenko told 360TV the schoolgirl’s mother had called an ambulance after hearing screams and thinking she was suffering from appendicitis.
She is said to have then ‘confessed to paramedics she had given birth and hidden the child from the adults in the freezer’.
Her mother is believed to have told a neighbour her daughter had just gained some weight when they asked if she could be pregnant. It’s believed the teenager and child’s father, 16, broke up in the summer.
Anastasia Kuleshova, an official from the Russian Investigative Committee said ‘all the circumstances of the infant’s death’ are being checked by detectives.
Officials have named it a ‘terrible case’.
