Osun First Lady Seeks Stakeholder’s Support to Curb Rape,GBV|LAGOS EYE NEWS

Mrs Kafayat Oyetola, First Lady, State of Osun have urged the stakeholders to join hands together, eradicating incessant rape cases and other gender based Violence in the state.

She disclosed this during a courtesy visit on Tuesday to Osun State High court of Justice Osogbo.

Mrs Oyetola who doubled as the Chairperson of the State Committee on eradication of all forms of Gender-Based Violence led the members, including wife of the Deputy Governor Mrs Oyefunke Alabi and wives of top government officials said the aim of the is to formally seek the support of the judiciary in campaigning against all forms of violence before it becomes a pandemic in the country.

Oyetola stressed that, there are so many reports on the rising incidence of rapes and sexual offences in the country with the age of victims cut across among which the 70s being raped just as those in their tender ages like 3 years are also being defiled.

According to her, the situation is taking a dimension which must be arrested before it becomes uncontrollable.

She further explained that the committee had taken the task of carrying out the effective campaign for behaviour change that will help to protect women and girls from been rape.

She therefore solicited the support of Judges of High Court of Justice to punish offenders of the barbaric act according to the law. Adding that the rape and all forms of sexual violence were now becoming major threat to the health women and girl child in the society,

Speaking during the visit, the Chief Judge, Justice Adebola Adepele Ojo said it is obvious that when women are not properly protected, the children and family suffers. She added the menace of rape and other form gender violence should not be allowed in our society inorder to protect the human race.

Justice Adepele Ojo said the menace was now rampant in our society due to poverty of the mind, wrong marriage, indecent dressing, influence of hard drugs, alcohol and bad upbringing among other.

Also, Speaking at the programme Justice Adedokun Onibokun and Justice Adedoja appreciated the wife of the Governor for the visit, despite her tight schedules, the duo added that it is high time for parents to sensitise their children with sound discipline through good home training inorder to make our society a safe place to leave all.
